Limiting the Search Range of Correlation Stereo Using Silhouettes

چکیده
We present a new approach to combine two approaches to three-dimensional reconstruction: silhouette-based and correspondence-based approaches. The two approaches have complementary costs and benefits. Silhouette-based approaches deliver volumetric descriptions which often have very few outliers, but they cannot reconstruct concave surfaces. Correspondence-based approaches give surface descriptions with sub-pixel accuracy, but their search range either allows outliers or falls short of the correct match. We show that a combination of the two can deliver fine-grained accuracy with few outliers. Our specific implementation uses the silhouette reconstruction as prior data to center and bound a stereo search process. We explore the different performance characteristics of the combination and its two component methods qualitatively and quantitatively using

Combining Stereo and Visual Hull for On-line Reconstruction of Dynamic Scenes
In this paper, we present a novel system which combines depth from stereo and visual hull reconstruction for acquiring dynamic real-world scenes at interactive rates. First, we use the silhouettes from multiple views to construct a polyhedral visual hull as an initial estimation of the object in the scene. The visual hull is used to limit the disparity range during stereo estimation. The use of...
متن کاملVisual Hull Rendering with Multi-view Stereo Refinement
We present a system for rendering novel viewpoints from a set of calibrated and silhouette-segmented images using the visual hull together with multi-view stereo. The visual hull predicted from the object silhouettes is used to restrict the search range of the multi-view stereo. This reduces redundant computation and the possibility of incorrect matches. Unlike previous visual hull approaches, ...

We propose a novel robust stereo algorithm for weakly-textured scenes. Unique correspondences existing between the silhouettes of corresponding image segments allow assigning accurate disparities to segment boundary points. This information as well as stereo from the weak texture inside segments, which is extracted using a regionconstrained window-based matching algorithm, are fused and dispari...

SUDIPTA N. SINHA: Silhouettes for Calibration and Reconstruction from Multiple Views. (Under the direction of Marc Pollefeys) In this thesis, we study how silhouettes extracted from images and video can help with two fundamental problems of 3D computer vision namely multi-view camera calibration and 3D surface reconstruction from multiple images. First, we present an automatic method for calibr...
